Gajanan Maharaj Temples are built in honor of Sant Gajanan Maharaj, an Indian holy saint widely revered in Maharashtra and by devotees around the world. Sant Gajanan Maharaj lived during the late 19th and early 20th centuries and spent most of his life in Shegaon, Maharashtra, where he attained Samadhi on 8 September 1910.

Shegaon became a major pilgrimage center due to Sant Gajanan Maharaj’s residence and Samadhi. The Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj Temple, built at the site of his Samadhi, is managed by the Sant Gajanan Maharaj Sansthan, the largest temple trust in the Vidarbha region.
